About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced IBMi Administrator to join our System Operations team as the primary IBMi Administrator and SME. This critical role is responsible for the day-to-day management and maintenance of our three production Power 9 IBMi systems, ensuring their stability, security, and performance. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a deep understanding of IBMi administration, including high availability and change data capture (CDC) processes. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

    • System Administration: Perform daily system checks, monitor system performance, and proactively address potential issues. Manage user accounts, security profiles, and system resources.
    • High Availability/Disaster Recovery: Maintain and monitor our Mimix replication environment, ensuring data synchronization and failover capabilities. Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing.
    • Change Data Capture (CDC): Monitor and support the CDC processes that utilize IBMi journals, ensuring data integrity and timely delivery. Troubleshoot any issues related to journal receivers or data replication.
    • Security Management: Develop and implement a comprehensive security plan for all IBMi users, including access controls, password policies, and security audits. Ensure compliance with relevant security regulations.
    • Performance Tuning: Collaborate with the application development team to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks. Analyze system performance metrics and implement optimizations.
    • Problem Resolution: Troubleshoot and resolve system and application issues, escalating to vendors as needed. Maintain accurate documentation of system issues and resolutions.
    • Backup and Recovery: Manage system backups and ensure their integrity. Develop and test recovery procedures to minimize downtime in case of system failures.
    • Software Maintenance: Apply PTFs and perform system upgrades as needed. Stay current with IBMi best practices and new technologies.
    • Vendor Management: Liaise with hardware and software vendors for support and maintenance.
    • 24/7 On-Call Support: Provide occasional after-hours support for critical system issues.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field preferred.
  • Extensive experience (5+ years preferred) in IBMi system administration.
  • Strong knowledge of IBMi hardware and operating system.
  • Proven experience with Mimix high availability software and IBMi journaling concepts.
  • Solid understanding of IBMi security best practices.
  • Experience with performance tuning and problem resolution.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications in IBMi administration.
  • Experience with other related technologies (e.g., DB2, MQ Series).
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., CL, RPG).
  • Experience with CDC processes.
